As I previously mentioned, there's not been time for gaming in the last week as I have been back at work and this weekend saw the welcome visit of chum Guy Bowers of that there Wargames, Soldiers and Strategy magazine. Guy came along to take photos to accompany a piece I have written for the magazine, so we had a busy time clearing space for lights, camera and...(not really)...action.
After a mere five hours of shuffling figures, terrain and equipment we felt Guy had enough images and hopefully he had a not too awful drive home from the East Midlands to the south-west coast!
The buildings with paved bases have had these enhanced by gluing down pieces of thin card then covering this with toilet paper and thinned PVA, to add texture. I've done something similar on some of the dorma windows, which also helps cover up corner joins. The last photo is part of a building from the Warbases Paris 1624 range. These have steeper roofing than the napoleonic Prussian stuff, so help to break things up when grouped together. They also have diamond-pattern windows - which I've removed in this case to replace with new windows made from cheap, plastic fly swatters to make them look bit more in keeping with the prussian buildings.
Next week's plan is to finish the tiling then glue the buildings to 5mm grey board bases which I have prepared by spraying both sides with brown satin pain to limit warping. After that I can add external staircases, walls, fences, barrels, etc before priming and painting. Where appropriate I can add thin-card slabs and more of the tissue/PVA to tie together the appearance of all the buildings. Next weekend looks mostly full of family stuff, so gaming looks like a March thing...by then I should have the makings of a decently sized urban area, but the campaign action still has plenty of villages and farms to tackle first.
