At last! A new blog post and a return to the fictional Trinket War that runs in Europe at roughly the same time as the American War of Independence.
I want get more games played this year than in the last couple, so a small solo campaign seems in order. This coincides nicely with chum Henry Hyde publishing his "Junction Jeopardy" that gives the outline of just such an escapade. To fit this into the geography of my imaginary nation of Tattemberg* I have flipped the campaign map and sketched the result as you can see below:
Know then, it is the year 1781. Tattembergers are preparing for the winter ice to thaw and reopen the waterways which are vital to transporting Quellebier from the pilsner springs in the north to be exported across Europe. Key to this trade is the Viereckstal, a valley through which flows the Schwachwasser that brings transport rafts to the town of Vierecksbrucke where the precious cargo is unloaded and placed on carts heading in all directions.
Late last year Vierecksbrucke was seized by the forces of Gallia, a French Duchy, who have held it through the winter with a reinforced brigade of infantry and a cavalry brigade, all under the command of the Duc d'Bonbon and his subordinates the Duc de L'Orange (infantry) and the Count Toudix (cavalry).
It is a priority for Tattemberg that this garrison is expelled as soon as possible. To this end the trusty Baron Fritz von Wegbringen has been placed in command of several brigades and is advancing rapidly from the south-east.
How will this go? Will cold beer flow in time to grace the European summer or will Gallian resistance ensure that the French vineyards benefit from increased trade? Who will burnish their martial reputation and who will fall foul of the fickle finger of fate? Will I run out of silly names (probably not)? When will the campaign reach the praline mines of Ultima-Tattemberg (I'm guessing December...)?
Let slip the dogs of war!
In the meantime, for those who don't follow the companion Facebook page, here are some recently painted units who will join the campaign:

Fantastic, Steve, can’t wait to see how this develops! Count Toudix indeed!
ReplyDeleteAll cavalry should be huzzars!
ReplyDeleteNot if I have to paint them! 😂
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing this progress.
