3rd Foot - The Buffs (Eutaw Springs, 1781)

My latest unit is the 3rd Foot as they might have looked at Eutaw Springs in 1781.

This is my second version of this battalion as I built them a while back using plastic figures, but this time I really wanted a firing line. I've used Perry metal figures (British infantry in cut down coats - firing line and command standing as well as a few figures from a grenadier command pack). Flags are from GMB and the finials and cords are from Front Rank. Bases are from Warbases.

  1. Great work on these - I have always liked the Buffs - I actually had a mate who served in their successor regiment, the Queens Regiment in the 80's. I think they were the first AWI unit I painted twenty years ago, using Front Rank figures.

  2. Beautiful work Steve , interesting to see the separate base for the standards ? I hadn’t noticed that on your other units or is that a new idea ?

  3. Hi Matt. I base standards separately for the British as they weren’t always carried in the field so I can leave them off if I want. It also means I can swap the standards on a unit for ones of another regiment with the same facings. My Hessian regiments also have separate standards in most cases, also the French but the latter is so I can split regiments into two battalions and give each one of the regiment’s two flags.
