Loyalists, 1777 (Saratoga)

To make a change from the Continental regiments here is something different.

Two loyalist contingents accompanied Burgoyne. These were commanded by Peters and Jessup. Both were nominally in red coats with green facings but many (most) of the men never received these (some didn’t receive muskets either).

I’ve painted figures who can act as either, or both, of these units. There’s probably too many in uniform but they help to tie things together. I’ve used a mix of Perry figures in shirtsleeves, Foundry uniformed militia and Foundry minutemen. There is a Foundry officer, a Perry British standard bearer converted to hold a musket and a Perry Continental drummer. A number of figures have been converted to wear uncocked hats taken from the Perry AWI British box set.

I have based these on 40mm x 25mm bases so they can form up or skirmish.

  1. Excellent and a real inspiration as I am waiting on my first figures from this period to arrive in the post.

  3. Beautiful mix of clothing give them the true militia feel. Execution of the painting is superb.
