New Napoleonic Rules

As mentioned I have put up a page on the blog with the new version of my napoleonic rules (Napoleonic Squares v2), which I tested out at Partizan last week. Since then I have simplified the movement by reverting more or less back to my previous rules. As with my Bloodybacks! I'm sure there will be future tunkering and editing, but for now they are usable and should give a good grand-tactical game for those who don't want to worry about handling battalions but are more interested in corps-sized actions and above.

I have revised and updated these rules and changed these on the "pages" section of the blog. So, we are now up to version 9. There are some key additions to the command and control element of the game as well as streamlining of shooting and melee. Taken together these give a faster moving game with more happening in each game turn and a little less mental load for players. The core concepts of unit quality, command quality and unit density have been retained.

Further thoughts on Fireball Forward

Following on from my previous post I thought I'd offer a few comments on my approach to Fireball Forward and some house rules I used in the demo game at The Other Partizan. 1. Chits versus Cards I don't really like playing cards in tabletop games. It's a personal thing, but I find them quite intrusive even if just on the edge of the table. My preference is to use MDF tokens drawn from a bag or bowl. Luckily I have a stash of suitable ones that I bought from Great Escape Games who make them to support their Iron Cross rules. I simply put one chit per unit (with the appropriate Allied or Axis marking) in a recepticle, draw them out an line them up face-down to create the order of unit activation. As units are activated the chit used is placed next to them so that it clear who has and hasn't done anything in the turn.
