GCH at Cannon - the game

Some photos of the action:

The British advance across the fields:
...and engage the militia:
Foot guards engage Lee's legion:
The British eventually storm the fence line:
The Royal Welch Fusiliers enter the woods:
As do the Guards:

The Guards find Lee's legion a tough nut to crack:
...and the game wins a prize!

We played the game through the day. The British found it tough going but ground onwards. When we called a halt there was still hard fighting with the Virginians in the woods.

The rules (my own with some similarities to Fire & Fury) played well and gave historically plausible results. The militia did seem to get the rub of the green today however, thanks to rolling quite a lot of 5s and 6s whereas the British seemed to get a lot of 2s and 3s.

All in all a LOT of fun. Thanks to Laurence for putting up with another rules experiment :-)

  5. Hi Jonathan

The rules are heavily adapted from "Fire and Fury" with a lot of changes in factors to make them more suitable for the C18th. I have replaced casualty removal with the accruing of hits (some of which can be recovered). They also use a d6 rather than a d10.

There's nothing complex about them, but on a first run-out they seemed to do the right things.
