Davout was made a Marshal for a reason and that was made abundantly clear at Austerlitz (an amazing night forced march), Auerstadt, then again in the early stages of 1809. Then in 1812 with running both Vanguard and Rearguard.<br /><br />The Austrians had every reason to be confident with their early plans.
